About Dr. Rivera
Thank you for visiting my website. I’d like to tell you more about my practice. I am Nilsa Rivera, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist in Naples Florida, born and raised in New York. With an undergraduate degree from Gannon University, a Masters from Indiana State University, and a Ph.D. (in Counseling Psychology) from Loyola University Chicago, I am graduate trained in the ‘scientist-practitioner’ model. I have completed an APA accredited internship at Bellevue Hospital (Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center specialization)/New York University Medical Center in 1994, I have received extensive training (coursework and clinical) in treatment, and evaluations (specifically, neuropsychological and forensic) since 1988. I maintain licenses in both Florida (PY6994) and New York (13257), and am one of the few psychologists in Naples, FL to provide forensic neuropsychological services in both English and Spanish.
I am a member of National (APA, AFCC, NAN), State (FPA) and Local (FPA Calusa Chapter, MHASWFL, CCMS) psychological and medical associations, in which I have held leadership roles throughout my career. Currently, I hold the position of member of the Florida Psychological Association’s Education Board. I have completed training in several sub-specialty areas and am a trained Supreme Court of Florida Mediator, Parenting Coordinator, Forensic Evaluator, and Guardianship Evaluator.
More importantly, in my work I attempt to support a client with their holistic, proactive health strategies and strive to be in-tune with the delicate balance needed during the treatment process. I help develop simple and specific, achievable goals for people with whom I work. First, for improved functions and moods; and, secondly, for developing strategies for concretizing lifelong change and evolving growth. In that same light, evaluations are completed with the goal of gathering useful and helpful data to inform treatment and care.
